Go Early

This is a very popular location! Not just for photo sessions but for tourists, readers, and, you know… actual library people. If you want those dreamy shots without the crowds, morning is your best friend. Shooting in the morning can give us such a calm, glowy atmosphere to work with!

Dress the Part

This location loves a good outfit moment. While you totally don’t have to go full glam, this is the place to wear something that makes you feel incredible. Think chic and stylish, or romantic and floaty. Structured suits and silk dresses look amazing here, but even a cozy neutral sweater and boots combo can feel like a rom-com scene if styled right.

Bonus tip: bring a second look if you’re planning a longer session! You can go elevated for the library, then switch it up and head to a second location with a more playful vibe (more on that in a sec).

Play with Composition

The New York Public Library is such a gift for photographers because it gives us a LOT to work with. We’re talking beautiful symmetry, epic staircases, and so much architectural texture. One of my favorite shots from Courtney & Santos’s session was taken from across the building, capturing them framed by columns from a distance. It gives that “just us in the world” feel that never gets old.
